Powerful hallucinogen legal – for anyone – to buy

Salvia divinorum

It’s a hallucinogen that’s been around for years, but ask any parent, and they probably have no clue kids are using the common plant in a dangerous way.
It only grows in southern Mexico, a plant called salvia divinorum, and we found it packaged up and for sale on the shelves of several Albuquerque shops.

It’s known as “magic mint” or “seer’s sage.” One shop said to use it in a bong.

"The hotter you burn it, the more active it's going to get in your body," one store employee said.

Forget the galleries, Taos drawing mountain bikers

TAOS, N.M. » Droves of tourists head to Taos every summer, ready to take in the area's art galleries, pioneer history and American Indian influence. After all, this is the place that inspired artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams.

But there's another group of tourists who are bypassing the galleries and museums in favor of trails along the rim of the Rio Grande gorge and forested ribbons of singletrack high in the surrounding mountains.

This is the other side of Taos, and word is spreading -- from Albuquerque and Santa Fe all the way to the South Pacific.

Father Fires Gun to Discipline Sons Who Refuse Chores

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 71-year-old Albuquerque father says he fired a gun after his two adult sons refused to do their chores.

Sammy Shannon calls it a form of discipline.

A police report says the sons, ages 22 and 29, jumped Shannon Monday night after he hit one of them. They pinned him down until their mother ordered them to let him go.

The Albuquerque resident says he then decided to use his own brand of discipline on his sons and that's when he got his gun.

Shannon admits he fired his .38, but says he didn't aim it at his sons and would never actually shoot them.

Nude passenger forces US Airways plane to divert

A NUDE passenger's bizarre behaviour has forced the diversion of a US Airways plane.

Keith Wright, 50, of New York allegedly disrobed in front of 148 passengers on flight 705 from Charlotte to Los Angles yesterday, an Albuquerque airport spokesperson said.

The flight crew become alarmed by his bizarre behaviour after he allegedly ran around the plane, refusing to put his clothes back on or be covered with a blanket.

Passengers helped physically restrain Mr Wright, who was eventually handcuffed to a row of seats, and the plane diverted to Albuquerque.
