Albuquerque Security Door sales Rise

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Business is booming for Albuquerque businesses selling residential security doors.
And the spike in sales is directly related to an increase of property crime in the Albuquerque metro area, according to the busy business owners.
"There has been a dramatic increase in the last three months, I'd say," Don Best, owner of Barnett-Aldon Ironworks, told KRQE News 13. "It just seems to escalate as the economy gets worse as there's more crime going on in our community."
Best said he's working long hours to keep his backlog of orders for iron door at two to three weeks. Every day he's getting calls from people who had burglaries to their homes, he said.
Another local business that specializes in residential security doors has never been busier.
"Residentially we are probably up 30 percent over our best year for the past year or so," Action Security Iron owner Ryan Bogue said. "We don't see it slowing down,"
While these business owners take no joy in earning money after a burglary occurs, they do feel they are providing an invaluable service to victims by giving them peace of mind.
"The peace of mind is just amazing," burglary victim B.J. Hanks told News 13. Hanks walked in on the burglary in progress at her own home a few weeks ago. She wasn't hurt, but the experience led her and her husband to install a custom-made security door.
The FBI reports property crime increased in the Albuquerque area by 9 percent between 2007 and 2008. The 2009 numbers will not be available until next year.
